We’re heading southeast to Superior, Arizona, where the residents know the value of recycling, repurposing and renovating. In a town that nearly went ghost, we’ll visit unique homes, both new and old, including an artist’s home beautifully reimagined with the hardwood floor of an old high school gym and an amazing roof of repurposed metal from historic buildings around town. The red brick high school, circa 1926, now a private home with several guest suites and a gymnasium will be on display this year, along with the magnificent Magma Hotel. Long abandoned, the Magma is now beautifully renovated and on the National Historic Registry. We’ll also visit “Element 29”, originally built as La Olla Auto Court, and known as The Rock Motel. It fell into a horrific state of disrepair and attracted the worst kind of elements before being beautifully brought back to life as furnished apartments. Along with the home and buildings, we’ll also take some time to explore the Annual Antique Show at the Magma Club, circa 1915, where they are offering live music and refreshments. Weather permitting, Mata Ortiz potters fill be crafting their wares, and Wyatt Earp, a descendant of the legendary Wyatt Earp, will be sharing stories of Mattie Earp, his common-law wife who is buried in Superior. This is going to be a great day out, and we hope you will join us!
