SUMMARY:Arizona Route 66 Adventure
DESCRIPTION:Arizona Route 66 AdventureDecember 12–15\, 2026\n$999 per person\, based on double occupancy | $199 single supplement \nGet ready to get your kicks on Route 66! The Mother Road turns 100 in 2026\, and we’re celebrating with four days of Arizona history\, classic roadside stops\, and good company. \nWe want this trip to feel like piling into the car with family and hitting the road: sharing stories\, laughing together\, and enjoying that sense that you never quite know what you’ll see around the next bend. Every traveler will receive a special Kindred Tours Route 66 shirt to mark the adventure! \nAlong the way\, we’ll collect stamps in our Arizona Route 66 Passports. There are nine unique stamps across the state\, and collecting at least seven qualifies you for a certificate declaring that you’ve officially “Got Your Kicks on Route 66!” It’s a fun way to follow our journey and bring home a keepsake. \nBring your cameras and keep them handy—we want to see your favorite moments from the Mother Road! \nDay 1 — Topock\, Oatman\, Cool Springs & Kingman \nOur Route 66 adventure begins as we head west across Arizona to Topock on the Colorado River. Topock began as a railroad crossing in the 1880s. Its 1916 Trails Arch Bridge later carried automobile travelers across the river and even appeared in The Grapes of Wrath. We’ll enjoy an included lunch at Topock 66 and collect the first stamp in our Arizona Route 66 Passports! \nNext up is Oatman\, the old mining town named for Olive Oatman\, whose remarkable 19th-century story became known throughout the West. A gold strike brought a boom in 1915\, and Route 66 later gave travelers a reason to stop even after the mines declined. Today\, burros descended from the miners’ pack animals wander through town. We’ll visit the Oatman General Store for our second passport stamp\, then enjoy time to browse the storefronts\, meet the burros\, and take photos. \nThe winding road through the Black Mountains brings us to Cool Springs Station. In Route 66’s early years\, motorists stopped here for gasoline\, water\, food\, and a chance to steady their nerves before or after the steep drive over Sitgreaves Pass. Fire destroyed the station in the 1960s\, but it was rebuilt decades later as a tribute to the Mother Road. We’ll stop to see this piece of roadside history before continuing to Kingman. \nOur final stamp of the day awaits at the Kingman Visitor Center\, housed in the historic Powerhouse. Built in the early 1900s\, the building once supplied electricity to Kingman and nearby mines; today\, it welcomes travelers discovering Route 66. \nWe’ll check in at Best Western Plus King’s Inn & Suites\, then head to the colorful Mr. D’z Route 66 Diner for dinner on self. \nDay 2 — Classic Roadside Stops\, Seligman\, Williams & Flagstaff \nWe’ll start with one of Route 66’s most memorable photo stops: Giganticus Headicus in Antares! The property once served highway travelers as a motel\, restaurant\, and gas station. Decades later\, artist Gregg Arnold added the 14-foot green tiki-style sculpture that greets road trippers today. Our early visit will be an outdoor photo stop before we continue to Hackberry General Store. \nHackberry General Store opened in 1934\, closed after interstate traffic passed it by\, and found new life when Route 66 artist Bob Waldmire reopened it in 1992. Vintage pumps\, signs\, and automobiles now surround the shop. We’ll have time to browse\, take photos\, and add another stamp to our passports. \nWe’ll travel through Valentine and Peach Springs on our way to Grand Canyon Caverns. Beneath this stretch of Route 66 lies a vast limestone cavern with millions of years of geologic history. The caverns were also designated a fallout shelter during the Cold War—an unexpected chapter in the story of this roadside attraction. \nWe’ll take the short guided tour\, which covers approximately ¼ mile. Please wear closed-toe shoes for our cavern visit and bring a light layer for the cooler temperature underground. \nBack in the sunshine\, we’ll head to Seligman\, often called the “Birthplace of Historic Route 66.” After Interstate 40 bypassed the town in 1978\, local barber Angel Delgadillo refused to let the old highway fade away. In 1987\, he and other supporters formed the Historic Route 66 Association of Arizona\, helping bring new attention to communities along the road. Years later\, Pixar’s team traveled Route 66 and spoke with Angel while researching Cars; Seligman was among the places that helped inspire the fictional world of Radiator Springs. \nWe’ll enjoy an included lunch at Roadkill Café\, then have time to see Seligman’s classic cars and colorful roadside displays. At Angel & Vilma Delgadillo’s Original Route 66 Gift Shop\, we’ll step into a place closely tied to the highway’s revival and collect another passport stamp. \nOur journey continues to Williams\, the last Route 66 town bypassed by the interstate. Its historic downtown still celebrates the age when motorists followed the highway straight through town. We’ll visit the Williams Visitor Center\, located in a former railroad freight depot\, for a stretch\, a look at local history\, and another passport stamp. \nIn Flagstaff\, we’ll check in at the Americana Motor Hotel. Originally built in 1962\, it has been reimagined with a playful style that recalls the era of classic motor lodges. The hotel even hosted members of the Easy Rider film crew when they worked in the Flagstaff area. After a chance to refresh\, dinner will be on self. \nWilliams and Flagstaff are Kindred Tours staples\, each with plenty more to discover. If you’d like additional time in either destination\, we encourage you to check our calendar throughout the year. \nDay 3 — Flagstaff\, Holbrook\, Jack Rabbit Trading Post & Winslow \nAfter a light breakfast on self at the hotel\, we’ll begin at the Flagstaff Visitor Center for our next passport stamp. The center occupies a Santa Fe Railway depot built in 1926—the same year Route 66 was established. Trains still stop here\, making it a fitting place to see how rail and road travel shaped northern Arizona. \nWe’ll then head east to the former Twin Arrows Trading Post. Its gas station and roadside businesses once beckoned passing motorists. The buildings are now relics of that era\, but one giant arrow remains standing for a memorable Route 66 photo. \nIn Holbrook\, we’ll first browse Jim Gray’s Petrified Wood Co. Jim and Cathy Gray began the business more than 50 years ago with a pickup truck and a pile of petrified wood. What began as a small rock shop has grown into a remarkable collection of petrified wood\, fossils\, minerals\, and Southwestern treasures. \nWe’ll also visit Holbrook’s Historic Navajo County Courthouse\, built in 1898 when the town was a busy railroad and ranching center. Today\, it houses the Navajo County Historical Society Museum and the Holbrook Visitor Center. Inside\, exhibits and old jail cells tell stories of the region’s frontier days\, while our passport stop adds another chapter to our own Route 66 journey. Lunch will be on self in Holbrook. \nBefore leaving town\, we’ll stop for photos at the Wigwam Motel. Built in 1950 by Chester Lewis\, its concrete teepee-shaped rooms were designed to catch the eyes of highway travelers. Vintage cars parked among the rooms complete the scene. The motel remains one of the most recognizable surviving landmarks from Route 66’s roadside lodging era. \nNext comes Jack Rabbit Trading Post. When Jim Taylor started the business in 1949\, a large rabbit and a series of mileage signs gave motorists something to watch for across the desert. Those signs led to the famous “Here It Is” billboard. We’ll have time to browse the shop and take our own jackrabbit photo. \nIn Winslow\, we’ll stop at the Visitor Center for our next stamp\, then head to Standin’ on the Corner Park. The Eagles’ song “Take It Easy” turned an ordinary corner into a destination for music fans. Its mural\, flatbed Ford\, and guitar-carrying statue give us one more classic photo opportunity before hotel check-in. \nOur final night is at La Posada Hotel\, designed by Mary Colter and opened in 1930 as a grand Fred Harvey railway hotel. After its years as a celebrated stop for train passengers\, the hotel closed and came close to being lost. A restoration begun in 1997 brought its rooms\, gardens\, and public spaces back to life. \nWe’ll have time to explore this beautiful piece of Winslow history before gathering for an included dinner at the Turquoise Room. \nDay 4 — Homeward Bound \nIt’s bags out and time to head home! After breakfast on self\, we’ll leave Winslow and travel back toward the Phoenix area\, with a break and lunch on self along the way. \nWe’ll return with passports full of stamps\, plenty of photos\, and stories from four days on the Mother Road. \n\n \n \n Please enable javascript in your browser to book\nCancellation Policy — ONE-DAY Van or Motorcoach Tours must be paid for when you make your reservation. Reservations can be made either by phone or online. One-day tours are nonrefundable within 30 days of the tour.Departure Locations —  We can only guarantee pick-up from the locations listed below.
