Day 1: CALGARY: GATEWAY TO THE ROCKIES. We’ll all fly into Calgary, where we’ll be met by our tour director from Chateau Isabella. Calgary—Canada’s oil Capitol, is an exciting and prosperous city; home to the world-famous Calgary Stampede and Chuck Wagon Races, the spirit of the wild-west still reigns here. We’ll gather for a delicious meet and greet dinner, included, and afterwards we’ll board our bus headed west through the rolling foothills of the Canadian Rockies. We’ll follow the curving banks of the Bow River to Banff National Park, where we’ll check into our hotel, our headquarters for the next two nights. This is the downtown Banff area, home to charming shops and galleries. Beyond the city limits we can expect to see mountain goats and sheep, elk, deer, bears and cougars!
Day 2: COLUMBIA ICEFIELD PARKWAY—ATHABASCA GLACIER. After a lovely breakfast included at the hotel, we’ll board the bus to the scenic village of Lake Louise, for a gondola ride offering spectacular views of the valley below. Afterwards we’ll enjoy lunch on self, then it’s back on the bus, and we’re headed for the famous icefields of Jasper National Park, where an optional thrilling guided Snow Coach ride offers us an opportunity to get out onto the glaciers. Later we’ll head back into Banff to explore the city and enjoy dinner, included.
Day 3: MORAINE LAKE—LAKE LOUISE. Again, a delicious breakfast is included at the hotel, then it’s back on the bus and we’re headed for Bowl Falls and the remarkable Banff Springs Hotel. We’ll return to Lake Louise, this time to also explore Moraine Lake, the Valley of the Ten Peaks, and the world-famous Chateau Lake Louise. Later we’ll head south, taking time to stop for a fantastic lunch, included, as we travel through some of Canada’s richest farmland on our way to Chateau Isabella, our home for the next five nights. Gorgeous Chateau Isabella, situated just east of Waterton National Park, will welcome our arrival with a wine reception, followed by a delicious home-cooked dinner, and of course, it’s all included!
Day 4: NO PACKING, NO DEADLINES. This is a day to relax! Enjoy an optional field trip to Police Outpost Lake, a scenic drive rich with wildflowers and nature trails. Relive the horse and buggy days at the Remington Carriage Center, the world’s largest collection of horse drawn carriages in North America—voted Canada’s Best Indoor Attraction. Later in the evening local entertainment will be available at the Chateau. Of course, home-cooked breakfast, lunch and dinner will be served at the Chateau Isabella and it is all included.
Day 5: WATERTON/GLACIER INTERNATIONAL PEACE PARK. After breakfast at the Chateau, it’s back on the bus and we’re headed for Cameron Lake, fed by mountain glaciers and Cameron Falls. We’ll enjoy a narrated motor launch boat ride on Waterton Lake, taking us across the Canadian border into Montana’s Glacier National Peace Park, then back to Waterton. The scenery here is breathtaking and with the wild berries in season, we are sure to see bears heading into Red Rock Canyon. Once again, all meals are included.
Day 6: CHIEF MOUNTAIN—GLACIER NATIONAL PARK, MONTANA. After breakfast at the Chateau, we’ll travel to Chief Mountain, sacred land to Blackfoot Indians. We’ll explore Sherburne and Swift Current Lakes, and the historic Many Glacier Hotel, a jewel in the Canadian Rockies. This region is often called “the Switzerland of North America.” Later we’ll visit a Hutterite Commune and learn about their history and culture. Once again, all meals are included.
Day 7: FORT MCLEOD RCMP HISTORICAL MUSEUM—HEAD SMASHED IN BUFFALO JUMP. After breakfast at the Chateau, we’re on our way to historically rich Fort McLeod, where the mystique surrounding the Royal Canadian Mounted Police—the Men in Scarlet—lives on. Our journey to Fort McLeod takes us through the Blackfoot Indian Nation, the largest Native American Reservation in Canada. We’ll learn about Blackfoot culture and so much more at the UNESCO World Heritage Site—Head Smashed In Buffalo Jump, dating back more than 6,000 years. Once again, all meals are included.
Day 8: GOING TO THE SUN HIGHWAY—LOGAN PASS. After breakfast at the Chateau, it’s back on the bus and we’re headed for Glacier National Park, where we’ll board the famous Red Tour buses, offering us spectacular views of majestic peaks, weeping mountain walls, high alpine meadows and wildflowers, wildflowers, wildflowers. We’ll travel an ancient trail once used by the Flathead Indians to cross the Continental Divide—heart-stopping scenery from the top of the world! All meals are included.
