Arizona is a land of canyons, great gorges full of spectacular, heart stopping scenery, not the least of which is Verde Canyon. Situated between two protected sanctuaries, the Coconino National Forest and the Prescott National Forest, this confluence of ecosystems—dramatic desert meets riparian area is only accessible by rail. The Verde Canyon Railroad has existed in harmony with nature and native inhabitants since 1912. Sturdy trestles and carefully engineered bridges span side gorges leading up to a 680 foot man-made tunnel blasted through solid rock. Ancient Sinagua ruins on high cliffs overlook watery riparian areas rich with wildlife. We’ve booked coach seats on the Saturday Night Starlight Ride, offering a unique perspective of the Verde Canyon, under the moon and stars! We’ll depart the depot at 5:30 p.m., winding our way towards Perkinsville for a glorious sunset. The return trip offers a unique glimpse into nocturnal wildlife and the canyon takes on a glow. We’ll enjoy dinner on self before heading to the depot in Clarkdale, with the restaurant TBA. This is a very special tour, an annual trek that should not be missed. Call in your reservations and join us!
