Join us for a relaxing drive along the breathtaking Sky Island Scenic Byway, one of Arizona’s most beautiful mountain roads. This remarkable 25-mile scenic route climbs more than 9,000 feet through the rugged Santa Catalina Mountains, carrying us from the Sonoran Desert into cool pine forests and alpine scenery.
As we wind our way toward the summit of Mount Lemmon, we’ll make several scenic stops to admire panoramic views, capture photos, and appreciate the dramatic changes in landscape and vegetation that make this drive so unique.
Our destination is the quaint mountain community of Summerhaven, nestled among towering pines at the top of the mountain. Here you’ll have time for lunch on self at the beloved Iron Door Restaurant, a longtime local favorite known for its homemade chili and cornbread, fresh soups, artisan sandwiches, crisp salads, and irresistible fresh-baked pies. If the weather cooperates, relax on the flower-filled patio while hummingbirds dart through the gardens.
Cool mountain air, spectacular scenery, and a leisurely afternoon make this one of Arizona’s favorite summer escapes.
